Genealogy Online.

Genealogist are perculiar people, in a good way of course! Researching ones family and kin is like being an archeologist and detective combined. When you start untangling this web you may very well get stuck and have a new hobby for life!

A Group on Facebook !

If you are too you will find the Group Långörasläkten - Descendants of Hakan Kraak.

All relatives may join this group, paying member of the society or not. The Group is created on a private initiative by our webmaster. Something for our younger kin perhaps?

Unfortunately there are few young genealogists in our society. And they are badly needed to keep the society alive.

We think that the Internet and the networking available might increase interest in getting to know your kin and we want to encourage you to take advantage of it. After all how cool is it to have gramps as a friend on Facebook?

How to Start

This you can do easily on your own or even with your children or grandchildren. You may not be able to pry them away from the computer to find family history interesting - and if you cant beat them: join them!

Start with contacting Arne Olsson and ask him to do a Descendent chart for you. The Descendant chart shows how you are connected with our ancestor Håkan Svensson Kraak. There you have names and dates of births and deaths for many generations.

How to make it real

The best thing is of course to get a picture of the family tree made - as most people learn that way. There are many ways to get this done. You can start with pen and paper.

Just google family tree and you may find charts for sale and charts for free. Misbach has free charts to download as a way to start.

Genealogy websites

Trouble is - once you start you want to expand into the white areas of you family. And you might want to get in touch with other family members or second cousins. There are a number of ways of doing this. Some are free - and some will cost you a small fee. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of each site before you start!
